The Little Girl's Home: The Story of Jairus's Daughter (A Building Book)

The Little Girl's Home The Story of Jairus' Daughter A Building Book No author or illustrator listed Copyright: 1988 Format: board book Status: I have no idea where you could find this book. I can't find it on Amazon, ebay, or even through the publisher (Moody Press) Conclusion: Keep I remember buying this book. It was from my favorite used book store (which has sadly closed down), and was one of the first Bible stories I ever bought my daughter. At the point when I bought this one, I wasn't even thinking of creating a Bible story library.  In fact, I hadn't even started the routine of reading a Bible story before bedtime; we just read books and the Bible stories were in the general collection. I didn't begin intentionally reading Bible stories before bed until a friend mentioned that she was doing it with her own son. I liked the idea so much I began that routine with my daughter too, and thus began my quest to build a library of Bible stories for her. Thanks...

Three Men Who Walked in Fire (Arch Books)

Three Men Who Walked in Fire Arch Books Written by Joann Scheck Illustrated by Sally Mathews Copyright: 1967 Format: Paperback Status: Not currently in print, but pre-owned copies are available on ebay.  Conclusion: Keep I've always thought that the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego was a pretty well known story for children.  However, I appear to be wrong about that. This version is the only one I own, and in fact, it is the only one I've seen. The Good Points:  This book does a great job of staying true to the Bible. It gives an introduction as to who the three boys are and how they ended up in Babylon. It also attempts to give the Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednigo some personality traits to make them individuals and more identifiable for children. The Discrepancies: This story does not mention Daniel or anything that he did. In the Arch book, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednigo stayed away from the statue so they did not have to worship it, and they were noticed ...

Daniel in the Lions' Den

Daniel in the Lions' Den My First Bible Board Book Text by Kathleen N. Daly Illustrations by Jim Cummins Copyright: 1984 Format: Board book Status: Not currently in print. Good luck finding a copy if you want one,  Ebay had only one for sale that I could find. Conclusion: Get rid of it This was one of the very first Bible stories I ever purchased for my daughter (my son hadn't been born yet). It's been in our collection so long that I don't even know where it came from.  Never mind, I just found a price on it written in a handwriting I recognize.  It came from the little used book store I used to frequent when I was a teenager. Over the years I have had so many dozens of books with prices written in that same handwriting that I would recognize it anywhere.  Sadly, that bookstore closed down the same year I moved back to the area, so I only had a couple of opportunities to visit it as a parent and look through their section of kids books. As a teenager I had n...
