The Twenty-Third Psalm (Alice in Bibleland)

The Twenty-Third Psalm An Alice in Bibleland Storybook Written by Alice Joyce Davidson Illustrated by Victoria Marshall Copyright: 1988 Format: Hardback Status: Not currently in print, but many pre-owned version are available at ebay Conclusion: keep Today we have yet another Alice in Bibleland book.  While I do love the Alice in Bibleland series, this one is not my favorite book.  The premise of most books in this series is that Alice reads a magic book and goes back in time to witness (but not participate in) events that happened in the Bible. This book is different, though. In this book, Alice reads Psalm 23, then write short poems to help explain what the verses mean. My husband likes the book, and the poems are quite accurate, but I feel like it takes too many steps away from the Bible to really be considered a Bible story. It's more like a commentary.  I have no problems with the book itself, but I question whether it should be considered a Bible story, or no...

Found: Psalm 23

Found: Psalm 23 Written by Sally Lloyd-Jones Illustrated by Jago Copyright: 2007 (text) 2017 (illustrations) format: hardback Status: A boardbook version is available on amazon   and new or used versions are available on ebay Conclusion: Keep it I asked my son to pick the next book I should review and he chose this one. I'm not sure why, because we almost never read it.  However, this book is very interesting. The words come straight out of the Jesus Storybook Bible which was also written by Sally Lloyd-Jones and illustrated by Jago.  That is a very well-known and highly regarded story Bible for children. I've read it to my children but have not reviewed it yet (mostly because reviewing entire children's Bibles seems a bit intimidating right now, so I'm just reviewing one story at a time for now). However, in the "Found" book, they took the original words from their version of Psalm 23, separated them from the rest of the story, and added many more pictures t...

Samson and Delilah People of the Bible Retold by Catherine Storr Pictures by Ivan Lapper Copyright: 1986 Format: Hardback Status: Not currently in print, but some pre-owned copies are available on ebay Conclusion: Fix it After my last Samson and Delilah book didn't make the cut (and since it was the only one in our collection that told that specific story), I bought another one from ebay.  It took a strangely long time to get here, but I finally have it! I haven't even read through this one yet, but I've been pleased with the other books from the People of the Bible series, so I have high hopes for this one.  The Good Points: The pictures are nice and realistic looking. Some of the details are nice. I liked the fact that they showed how often Delilah tried to trick Samson into revealing his secret. The Discrepancies: In this story, it opens by saying that an angel appeared to Manoah to tell him he would have a son.  The Bible says the angel appeared to Manoah's wife an...
