Here we have another Alice in Bibleland book. For those of you not familiar with Alice in Bibleland yet, it is a series of book that always starts with Alice, a little girl from our time, going into a magic book to witness (but never participate in) events from the Bible. Typically the books are pretty solid, and since they are written in rhyme, they are fun too.
This particular book is no exception to Alice in Bibleland's typically high quality. It is not the Baby Moses story we typically read in our house, since both my children have always preferred a simpler book meant for younger children. However after recently realizing how inaccurate that other story is, I've decided to remove it from our Bible story library. Luckily, this Alice in Bibleland does a much better job of following the story from the Bible, so it will become our new Baby Moses story.
The Good Points:
- It follows the Bible very well.
- Like other Alice in Bibleland books, the pictures are very pretty.
- It gives a background as to why the Pharaoh decided to have all the baby boys killed.
- The book includes lots of great details mentioned in the Bible.
- Pharaoh's daughter called the baby "dear baby Israelite" indicating that she was aware that he was probably one of the Hebrew babies that was supposed to be killed.
- The book describes how Moses received his name (though you may need to explain it in more detail).
- Like all Alice in Bibleland stories, it has the fiction of Alice going back in time to witness the events.
- The book doesn't mention the midwives.
- This story says that Moses was asleep when Pharaoh's daughter found the basket. The next page says that he began to cry and she felt sorry for him. The Bible says that Moses was already crying when she opened the basket.
