I've spent a lot of time immersed in Exodus reviewing all of these Moses books, which has been really interesting. I certainly have a much more in depth understanding of Moses's life than I ever have before. Today I get to finish my (current) collection of Moses books by reviewing the simplest one I own. It tells the entirety of Moses's life from his birth to the Ten Commandments, and does it all in a grand total of 14 sentences. I left this book until the end because I'm not quite sure how to review a book that cover so much material in such a small space, but I'll give it a shot.
The Good Points:
- This book skips a lot, but what it includes is accurate.
- This is a good sturdy book that stands up well to young children.
- The pictures are colorful and interesting.
The Discrepancies:
- This book skips a lot; in fact it is easier to list what it does include. It mentions Moses being found and raise by Pharaoh's daughter, that he goes away to be a shepherd, the Burning bush, the red sea, and the Ten Commandments.
- The biggest parts that it skips are Moses's family (including Aaron), or the plagues of Egypt, or God providing sustenance in the desert.
Overall, the book is so simple it is hard to get anything wrong. Yes, it is missing big parts, but I'm impressed how much of Moses's life they were able to include in such a short book. It's obviously meant for very young children, and I don't tend to judge these books too harshly because it is impossible to include all of the details in the limited space. I would recommend this book for ages 0-3.
